A weapon that made history

The sword is probably the weapon that has gone through the most times before being replaced. Considered the first weapon used exclusively to injure and kill opponents, the first sword is believed to date back to 3400 BC.

At the beginning, the sword was a prestigious weapon owned by the most important people because it was very difficult to produce. It later became a common piece of equipment, especially in the Roman army.

Typical weapon of the Middle Ages, its manufacture gained in quality and quantity thanks to the techniques of manufacture inherited over several centuries.

With the advent of firearms and the disappearance of hand-to-hand combat on the battlefield, the sword gradually lost its importance and its necessity.

The battle of Culloden, which took place on August 26, 1746, is the most representative example and marks the decline of the sword in favor of guns.

This battle which opposed Highlanders equipped with swords against English riflemen ended in the victory of the English who decimated the Highlanders with more than 2 000 dead against 52 on their side.

Today, the sword continues to fascinate and has entered popular culture with swords such as Excalibur (King Arthur), Anduril (Lord of the Rings) or the Master Sword (The Legend of Zelda)
