But recently, the rules of trade changed — and not in favor of small, honest creators.
What Changed
Until recently, most parcels under a certain value could enter the United States duty-free. This was known as the de minimis exemption, a rule that helped small businesses like ours ship affordably to our neighbors. But when the United States removed this exemption, every parcel, no matter its value, became subject to customs declaration and potential duties.
For customers, that change created confusion. For us, it meant facing a new system that added cost and complexity. And because Calimacil is committed to following every customs regulation to the letter, we could not (and would never) alter shipment values or find ways around these legal requirements. Every package we ship must reflect its real value — that’s our integrity, and your protection.
The Problem It Created
After the removal of the de minimis threshold, some major three-letter carriers began adding unjustified extra fees to U.S. shipments. These were not official government duties, but internal processing and brokerage charges that in many cases exceeded the value of the order itself. Disputing them was frustrating and slow, often taking months, with little to no explanation.
Customers were understandably upset. So were we. Calimacil has always valued fairness and transparency, and we knew we needed to rebuild our shipping process from the ground up to protect our customers from these issues.
The Calimacil Solution
After months of testing and coordination, we forged a new, transparent shipping route for our U.S. community. Calimacil now acts as the importer for you, handling the customs process directly to remove any middlemen fees or confusion.
All U.S. orders are grouped and shipped every Wednesday, and orders placed before Monday at 9:00 AM (EST) are included in that week’s departure. Any applicable duties or taxes are calculated automatically at checkout, so you know your total cost upfront.
All orders placed after October 22, 2025 are covered by our 100% Worry-Free Guarantee: if any surprise fees appear, Calimacil will cover the extra cost and add two free shipping credits plus 15% of your order value in CaliGold to your account.
